Get to know Syed Qasim

Syed has been a Beaverton resident for fifteen years. He has three kids that were born in the Portland Metro area ranging from a middle school to elementary age who keep each other very busy.

He was born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan and moved to the United States almost 25 years ago. He graduated from Portland State University and works at a Fortune 100 company as a Technical Consultant guiding organizations on their technology journey by bringing together people, processes and technology.

Syed has been a civically engaged community member in Beaverton for many years. He started his journey in public service by volunteering on the Beaverton Inclusive Housing Cohort to help guide the city’s code and policy towards creating more equitable housing and structures that meet the needs of Beaverton’s increasingly diverse community.

Syed helped organize and create the framework for the Beaverton Climate Action Task Force. As co-chair, he led and engaged in meaningful ways to help influence climate related policies for the city of Beaverton from assessing the allocation and prioritization of resources to elevating awareness of climate issues with the city’s leadership and staff.

Syed is actively engaged with the community in Beaverton School District such as partnering with student leaders and parents in helping advocate for more equitable experiences. This has given him the opportunity to work with current board members, district leadership and staff to better understand current processes and structures and how to most effectively empower our students and our community at large. He is also an active volunteer within the school communities of his children.

Syed has been an active board member and advisor for various local non profits such as Cool Islam, Wake Up Beaverton and many more.
